Simon 1- 0 Swine flu

Yes it has been a bit quiet on here for a little while, thats been because I had some pesky porcine pathogens floating round in my body. All gone..... touch wood..... do not fancy a rematch, as a treat before more serious stuff resumes (ie. job hunt) I allowed myself a little fun.

An angry man.... thats how I felt at my human fraility, whilst I had the energy

Snow_blind

this was a short exercise in broad stroke painting, maybe the snow influenced me more than I thought, although it was not this bad.

Wall Texture Example for Ruben

Hi Ruben here is an example of how various maps can be used to distress a wall (or a simple plane to you and I)

First off the maps

specular map

Bump map

Colour map

and the rendered wall with a simple spotlight,
simple wall with basic colour, bump and spec

the same wall with more wear and tear

the final wall with a simple dado rail added to the mix hope this gives you some ideas to the possibilities, this was about an hours work with distractions.

Where I am going? and Inspiration?

Now Phil, I'll fill you in on where I am going with this if you answer my little poser a few posts back (Happy New Year), what is the inspiration for the black cottage that is shown in the low poly models post ... actually the one above. The original has a small outhouse on the side and a window above the door.
Clues:
1. Its in Kent (just)
2. Garden Design
3. Film Making

Zombie arm

Photoshop speed paint..... the harvester of fresh brains (well his arm anyway)

low-poly water plant thingy

Anothe low-poly model, basically the one from earlier with a few more additions.

more low_poly stuff

Low poly model of a Datsun Skyline, artistic liberties taken with the wheels, might return them to the originals.

Cooling Plant Tower

Cooling plant tower just shy of 4000 tris most of those on the stairs just some minor texturing and a bit of bump mapping to go.

This is my final piecefrom my Tableaux Vivante (sp?) project . Mostly for Lev as she is doing an uncanny shed... the figure in my shed is a homage to Crewdson. Actually lifted from one of his works.... so sue me lol

Highlight of the festive period:

Highlights of the festive period.

1.Star Trek + Blu Ray + Sony Cinematic Surround sound made me v.happy and the neighbours wondering why a federation star ship was landing in their lounge... yes it would have def been worth the ASBO.
2. Carrera Mario Kart, slot cars for my little boy made us both happy bunnies.
3. Getting the other half pressies that she was happy with despite being on a post-student/ credit crunch budget... oh how i miss that student loan lol
4.Matt getting his laptop.... ironic how the power supply on lorraines packed up on X-Mas eve that'll be another £40 winging into the ether then.
5. Sarah still getting excited at opening the umpteenth packet of girly smelly stuff, how and why I do not know.
6 And most importantly spending 10 days 0ff out of 14 with friends and family ..... and plenty of festive cheer..... (btw. Stella 4% is deceptively easy to drink)

low poly models

Hi all and a happy New Year

Well I finally have my computer back where it rightfully belongs after its position was usurped by a Christmas tree and associated paraphenalia.... the sacrifices that an artist has to make for a harmonious family life are never-ending ;p

As a taster of what is coming in the New Year I have decided to post a scene that I have been using to pactice low polygon modelling, the compete scene weighs in at approx 32,500 tris however the ground plane accounts for 3200 and the bridges are quite hefty at 22,744 tris for the pair, I am confident that I can pare these back a lot without sacrificing any detail. lighting is provided with a simple 3 light set up. Render time at 1080 HD on what is now quite an archaic machine is around 55secs a frame.
A big fat chocolate cookie to the person who can guess the inspiration of the far black cottage.
Phil you are excluded.....
The scene is atill very much WIP. But I am enjoying low poly modelling lots, so watch this space.
